Welcome to the 2012 Alliance
Ride!
The Alliance Ride is going, in global
terms, “Gran Fondo”-
like. Gran Fondo means "Big Ride" in Italian
and typically covers 100+ miles of cycling. While we
are offering a Short Fondo in 2012, the event will move into
the century category soon!
The Alliance Ride event
is a police managed, closed road race encompassing a well
designed 25 mile loop through the city of Alpharetta. Those wanting a bigger
challenge can take the course twice to race the half century
distance of 50 miles. The start of the race is fast and
flat, and stays gently rolling for the remainder of the ride
until you reach the last 2 miles. You will break up any
lactic acid build up as you turn into the Verizon Wireless
Amphitheater hill, and then cruise to the bottom of Mount Jackson
(as coined by our title sponsor employees) for a final fun
climb to the sprint finish line.
The Alliance Ride is
open to recreational and competitive amateur cyclists, and riders of
all abilities may participate. Some
cyclists enter for the challenge and satisfaction of making
it to the finish line; others want to push themselves and their
friends; and some ride to win! Regardless, the Gran Fondo
style format is an unforgettable cycling experience and something
you will talk about until we go long next year!
Throughout the day, medical
and mechanical support will be stationed along the course for
anyone in need of assistance. Volunteers will be present on
the course at any turn on the course to direct participants. Volunteers
on motorbikes will be circling the course as well, ready
and able to help anyone in need. Along the route, participants
will enjoy well-stocked rest stops. A great post-race party
will await participants at the finish line.
Registration is $30 for the
25 mile and $45 for the 50 mile ride.
With plenty of food, drink, nutrition and special exhibits from
our local military, the Alliance Ride makes for a very memorable
day for all who attend.
